Christ Anglican Church in Cashiers was recently gifted an Italian-made Viscount Unico 250 American Classic organ. On Sunday, August 25 the church will offer a free organ concert at 6 pm. Music and hymns will be jointly conducted by two world-renowned music professors Dr. Albin Whitworth and Dr. Bill Goold. The Rev’d Dr. Michael Matlock, Rector of Christ Anglican Church will host the dedication of the organ. The hymn festival of praise and thanksgiving is open to all.

Dr. Whitworth taught at Asbury Theological Seminary for 37 years, where he was professor of Church Music in the Lily May Jarvis Endowed Chair. For 31 years he was Director of Music and Organist, Artist, and Composer in Residence at First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Ky. He is a native of Louisville, Ky., and holds an A.B. degree from Asbury University, M.Ed. and Ed.S. degrees from the University of Louisville and the Doctor of Christian Ministries honoris causa from Asbury University. He has done additional study at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Church Music, Eastern Kentucky University, and the Royal School of Church Music, Addington Palace, Croydon, England.
He has performed around the world, including a Christmas performance at the White House, and published more than 200 compositions with eleven publishers, including 19 books of keyboard arrangements for church musicians, a book of descants for trumpet and organ, a piece for organ and hand bells, and 14 anthems for mixed choir.
Dr. Goold is retired Professor Emeritus from Asbury Theological Seminary, having taught there 27 years as Professor of Church Music and Christian Worship. He holds degrees from Vennard College, Drake University, and the University of Kentucky. His calling to Christian higher education spanned 48 years, including College of the Open Bible, Whitworth College, Asbury University, and Asbury Theological Seminary.
In addition to his regular classroom teaching, he also actively served many years as Minister of Music at the Wilmore United Methodist Church and at Park United Methodist, Lexington. For several decades he has directed church choirs, organized choral activities, and led church choral clinics. It is always a joy for him to team with his long-time friend and teaching colleague, Dr. Albin Whitworth.
He continues to be regularly and directly involved in ministering to the Samburu tribe in the Samburu District of Northern Kenya. He functions as International Liaison for Nomadic Shalom Water Mission (NSWM), a registered NGO in Kenya.
